Bhool Bhulaiya is the Hindi remake of the critically acclaimed Malayalam blockbuster, Manichitrathazhu. The film was also remade in Telugu as Chandramukhi in 2005.

| Director Priyadarshan, who gave us hit remakes like "Virasat", "Hera Pheri", "Hungama" and "Hulchul", is back with this new film Bhool Bhulaiya, a comic thriller dealing with human psychology, which is shoot in the beautiful locales of Rajasthan. |

The plot of Bhool Bhulaiya revolves around a small village whose denizens are very conservative and superstitious. The film tells the story of a young couple arriving at the ancestral mansion. Ignoring the protests of their superstitious uncle, they move in to mansion, when unusual and supernatural events begin to happen. The couple's close friend, a psychiatrist is called in to investigate. Vidya Balan will be seen playing a Kathak dancer who suffers from split personality.

According to Priyadarshan, “It is a blend of thrill and humour. With this movie, I am trying to reveal many dimensions of human psychology.” Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan are in lead roles. The film will also feature Akshay Kumar, Amisha Patel, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav in pivotal roles. Pritam will compose the music for the film.

Neeraj Vora has penned the screenplay and the dialogue of the film. S. Theeru and N. Gopalakrishnan are handling the cinematography and editing of the film, respectively. Apart from making the audience spellbound by the humourous elements in his movies, Priyadarshan has also crafted the art of story telling. He always comes up with new plots and ideas. Going by the records, this will certainly be a complete entertainer.

Storyline: Badri (Manoj Joshi) heads a Brahmin family whose ancestral palace is believed to be haunted. One day, Siddharth (Shiney Ahuja) and Avni (Vidya Balan), the son and daughter-in-law of Badri’s elder brother return to their native village from America.
Events take on a twist when some unnatural events start taking place inside the palace. The blame comes to rest squarely on Radha (Amisha Patel), the adopted daughter of Badri. Suddenly a psychiatrist from America, Dr. Aditya (Akshay Kumar) enters the scene. He is Siddharth’s friend and uses modern analytical techniques to find out the culprit and solve the mystery. The film becomes a roller coaster ride from this point onwards.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a perfect blend of thrill and humor revealing undiscovered dimensions of human psychology, which many of us could never even, have imagined.
