| Gandhi - My Father is said to be one of the biggest films in terms of scale. Most of the principal technicians are international technicians. The film has been shot extensively in South Africa, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Bhoir near Pune.

The film gives a fascinating insight into the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his eldest son, Harilal, a relationship that hasn't been delved into much until now. It tells us not so much about Gandhi, the father of the nation, but a real life father to his son. While Kapoor, who is making his debut as a solo producer with this film, is reticent to give details, he says, "Gandhi - My Father is my first production and is very close to my heart. We've gone all the way to ensure that a film of international standards is made. It's a powerful story that I think every father and every son must see." Says Anil.

August 3rd is going to see a very secretive and a different version of Gandhiji. The great man who was ‘father of the nation’ for India was never a father for his own son.
One thought-provoking dialogue by Gandhi in the film runs thus: "How long can we go on protecting our children even in crime? What kind of society do we wish to create?”

In another scene, Harilal says, "Dear Bapu, in your laboratory of experiments, I am the one truth that has gone wrong." Gandhi - My Father is based on the biography of Harilal Gandhi. About Akshaye, Anil sums it up in one sentence, "Akshaye was born to play Harilal."
We have great hopes on this movie. Great choice for Akshaye Khanna!
Synopsis
Gandhi has always been compelling, complex and strangely contemporary. Sir Richard Attenborough introduced "Mahatma" the great soul to the West and the world remains grateful to him. But Gandhi carried a deep wound in his heart. Somewhere in the shadows of this great man lived his son, roaming the streets of India like a beggar. Converting to Islam as a rebellion, reconverting to Hinduism as a penance and finally drinking himself to death. Harilal Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi's eldest son carried his Gandhi identity as a curse around the neck. Mahatma Gandhi could transform the soul of a nation but could not save the soul of his own son. The film unfolds a personal tragedy against the racial hatred in South Africa and colonial humiliation in India. Gandhi becomes a greater human being as he struggled personally, socially and politically, but always put his principles and quest for human dignity above everything else.
