The film focuses on Om (Shah Rukh Khan) who grows up in the seventies. This is the time when he meets Shanti
(Deepika Padukone); the love of his life but shortly thereafter suffers an untimely demise. |

Om is immediately reincarnated and the story flash forwards to the present day.
Haunted by memories of his past life and his true love, Om attempts to solve the mystery of his death, and also reunite with Shanti, the love of his past life.
Om Shanti Om is inspired by the Hollywood movie, Chances Are, where a man is reincarnated and instantaneously attempts to find the wife from his previous life.
Om Shanti Om has over 30 well known Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan putting in a guest appearance for a special song and dance sequence in the film, a concept recently used by Farah's brother, Sajid Khan in the opening number of his film, Heyy
Babyy.

Farah Khan's husband, Shirish Kunder (director of Jaan E Mann) is in charge of Om Shanti om's editing. He was previously involved in the same department for Farah's debut movie, Main Hoon Na.
Om Shanti Om features Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role and introduces Deepika Padukone as his love interest.
The supporting cast includes Arjun Rampal (recently seen in the film Don) and Shreyas
Talpade.

Farah Khan who had earlier directed the film Main Hoon Na (2004) with was supposed to do Happy New Year but later scrapped that project to do this film.
The film's score and soundtrack are composed by the musical duo, Vishal-Shekhar with lyrics by renowned lyricist, Javed
Akhtar. Composer A.R.Rahman opted out of this movie, as T-Series did not agree to share the copyrights of music with him and the lyricist.
Om Shanti Om is all set to create another record of sorts by going in for an unheard of 2000 prints (worldwide) release. This is the highest number of prints (including digital) for any Indian movie till date.

Storyline/Synopsis
This is a story of ‘Om’ and ‘Shanti’. His film started in 1977 and ended in 2007. He was a Junior Artist in the 70’s. She was a Superstar of the 70’s. He was her biggest fan. She was his biggest inspiration. He was madly in love. She was waiting for love. He wanted to be a ‘superstar’. She wanted to be a ‘girl next door’. He was ready to give up all his dreams for love. She was ready to give up everything she had for love. He felt betrayed in life. She felt betrayed in love. And then …started the saga of ‘Om Shanti Om’ for some love stories one life time is not enough…
The story starts in 1977: a junior artist Om Prakash Makhija (Shahrukh Khan) falls for Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone) an actress famous for her beauty. Om is happy that she likes him. But, his heart breaks when he finds out that she loves someone else. Shantipriya dosen't know that the man she loves is an evil person with evil intentions. One day, he murders Shantipriya. Om finds Shantipriya in her last moments of her life. She dies and he, unable to bear the tragedy, passes away too. 30 years later, Om Kapoor a very successful actor, who was Om Prakash in previous life and immediately reincarneted, meets Sandy, who was Shantipriya in previous life and reincarneted. Now, only Om can recognize the murderer of Shantipriya and together they hunt the culprit of a crime committed years ago.
And then ... started the saga of 'Om Shanti
Om'.
