The movie Aashayein is a Nagesh Kukunoor movie. Nagesh earlier made serious movies like Dor, Iqbal and also he made a masala movie Bombay to Bagkok that did not work at the box office. The director Kukunoor is coming up with the actor John Abraham for the first time where John plays a role of a gambler.
The movie's story talks about Rahul who is highly obsessed with gambling, but finds new meanings of life following a spectacular turn. When asked why he got an idea to take John in the film, Nagesh said that he was too impressed with John's performance in 'Kabul Express' and Deepa Mehta's ‘Water’. Nagesh added that all human beings are gamblers in real life, so there is no reason for a surprise that he gambled on John.
Storyline
The story revolves around Rahul Singh (John Abraham), a compulsive gambler who wins Rs. 20 million from a bet and throws a party to celebrate. Everyone has a good time drinking and partying till late night during which Rahul proposes to Nafisa (Sonal Sehgal). He announces their engagement to all present, then collapses on the floor.
In hospital, he learns that he has only 90 days to live. Wanting to make the most of his last days, he leaves everything behind and moves into a soothing hospice. The inmates he meets change his outlook on life. As his relationships grow with each one of them, Rahul tries to rise above his own needs and live life to the fullest, learning from the courage of those around him.
The people he meets in the hospice add colour, both dark and bright, to his journey, which is one about love, hate, life, death and above all, hope. |
