Milan Luthria’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbai is already beginning to turn heads in the industry with the feeling that this could be a really big one.
The movie centres on the growth of the underworld in Mumbai in the 1970s and 1980s and is based on the life story of gangster Haji Mastan. The cast looks equally gripping with Ajay Devgan in the lead role – Ajay being one of those actors who can be both charming and dark at the same time. Opposite him as his love interest, the beautiful actress Madhubala will be Kangana Ranaut.
The film is based on the history of Haji Mastan the first celebrity "Don" of India who later reformed. Parallel to the main plot will be the story of Mastan's unrequited love during the 60s for actress Madhubala. She never returned his feelings, and after her death in 1969, Mastan was devastated. He married starlet Sona, a Madhubala look-a-like who he later launched in films. The film is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures along with Popcorn Entertainment.
