| When
John Abraham first hit his name on the headlines winning
the ’99 Gladrags Manhunt Contest, not many thought him
to be film material. But after 4 years of struggle, John
made a splash with his debut ‘Jism’ where he featured
alongside his real life love girlfriend Bipasha Basu.
Since the time of his debut, John has remained a male sex
symbol in Bollywood.Though, his relationship with Bipasha
has been going steady for almost 4 years now rumours of
him having an affair with his co-stars have made the
rounds of tabloids more often than his performances. In a
freewheeling exchange here, John clears the air about his
status with his co-stars and also drops a lesson or two on
making friends in Bollywood.

John talk on the women in his life—his heroines. “I
have nothing negative to say about any of my heroines.
I’m not trying to do good PR, because none of that will
help me at this stage of my career. Each of my heroines
has contributed immensely to my career.” Bipasha Basu
Honestly, she’s the reason people came and saw my
first film Jism. The plain truth is that John Abraham was
nobody when Jism released. The posters of the film were my
careers best, with Bipasha in black satin. She was the
only star of the film at that point of time and I owe my
and the film’s success to her. They say behind every
successful man there is a woman. Bipasha for sure, is the
woman behind me. She is also perhaps the most professional
and accommodating actor I’ve worked with. Bipasha is
physically very intimidating to every man because of her
sheer presence and the way she speaks. I truly believe
that she was among the last real super models that existed
in the fashion industry. I’ve always said that she is a
simple and honest girl and I still stand by it.

Tara
sharma
She looks docile and sweet but at the same time she
is very witty. During Saaya she did everything an actress
would have been asked to do. She needed the right start
with the right person.
I probably wasn’t the right actor because I was not
saleable.
Udita Goswami
She looked very beautiful in
Paap. She had a look
that made her different. Her short hair and lean frame
worked. She has got one of the most beautiful bone
structures. During the climax there was a scene when I am
driving round the bend and she had to come running down
the hill and stop my car. She had to run some 200 metres
and I was driving at around 90-100. She used to reach down
three or four seconds faster than the car. “Udita is my
favourite actress because she is great in action.” She
would fall, tumble, roll down, and do everything herself.

Lara Dutta
When we were shooting for Elaan we had nicknames
for each other. She used to call me, ‘hey sidey,’ and
I would call her, ‘hey item.’ Though we are a little
formal with each other, at the same time we are pretty
cool too. The rumours of our affair were strange because
Kelly (Dorjee) was always on the sets. I’ve said this
before that Lara and Bipasha were friends five years
before I started seeing Bipasha. Acutally Kelly trained me
on how to walk the ramp during my contest. I owe a lot to
Kelly also. I am very close to both of them
professionally.

Priyanka
Chopra
She’s one of the most professional actors I’ve
worked with. I’ve never heard her say, ‘NO!’ I
don’t think the word exists in her dictionary. She says
yes to everything. Tell her the shoot will be extended and
she will be fine. Even if it means that she packs up at
two in the morning and her next shift is at six in the
morning. She is very sporting and great fun to work with.
What I really like about her is that she never gets her
personal problems on the sets. Many of us have lots of
problems that show up easily. But Priyanka is a person who
conceals her problems very well and very easily too She is
one of the few actresses who did not have a problem
working with me when I was new. I will always respect and
appreciate her for that.
Esha
Deol
She is probably stronger than any man around. I
know one thing; if you talk crap in front of her she will
whack you. What I really appreciate about Esha is that she
says no as easily as she says yes. She is a very honest
and straightforward girl. She never beats around the bush.
She’s great fun on the sets. I believe she is an
innocent child. As a person she needs to get a little
smarter, she is perhaps too gullible. She needs to wisen
up. She is a nice person and the beauty is that her
niceness will always remain even if she does not get
wiser.
Sameera Reddy
We had some wonderful times during the shooting of
Taxi No 9211. She is one of the most outstanding dancers
if not the best. She is sensuous when she moves and that
adds a lot to her persona and her character. She is very
amiable on the sets. She has her limitations just as I do.

Vidya
Balan
In one word, she is lovely. We have a serious
problem when we are shooting together for Salaam-e-Ishq,
we both cannot stop laughing. Even before a serious shot
we break into fits of laughter. Sometimes we go into 15
takes before a shot is Okayed because we cannot control
our laughter. It’s that bad. We share a great rapport.
As an actress she is outstanding. As far as emotional
scenes go she is mind-blowing and a treat to watch. I’m
the luckiest guy because I am standing in front of her
during the shots and I get to watch her from close range.
I’d love to do more films with Vidya in the future.

Rani
Mukherjee
is my most favourite actress. She is
wonderful, beautiful and ethereal on screen. Rani has an
earthiness and a voice that can never be duplicated. I’m
working with her in Baabul. She is very bubbly and fun
loving between shots. In an intense scene when she looks
you into your eyes and cries, you really understand what
she’s conveying to you.
She has beautiful eyes. Rani has helped me make an honest
effort to perform my best. She’s a very nice person and
that’s what I really like about her.
