The
world is becoming smaller. Cell phones have cut down
distances. Low cost airlines have got cities closer.
There’s less time for breakfast. Even lesser time for
dinner. And no time for lunch. The sensex is rising.
Malls in every corner. Multiplexes, the only way to
watch movies. The seven year itch has come down to 7
months. Or lesser.
Depending on how ambitious one is. We are getting bored too soon. Too many choices. Too many dreams. Not enough sleep.

That's LIFE. That's METRO.
Rahul (Sharman Joshi) and Neha(Kangna) were never
in a relationship. But Rahul wanted to turn it
around his way. As a young call center executive
in a Mumbai based BPO, he wanted everything, which
included money and of course Neha, his boss! On
the other hand Neha had plans of her own. She was
young, sexy and good looking. |

Add
to that her trait of being a hard worker and she
knew she too could get everything that she desired
- a high position in the organization and
visibility. So what, if for that she has to get
into a sexual relationship with her boss
Ranjeet(Kay Kay Menon) a man who was ever willing
to give Neha all what she wanted, materialistic or
sexual, as long as the question of commitment
never arose.

| Ranjeet
was not alone he had Shikha (Shilpa Shetty)as his
wife who was maximum he could have bargained for.
She herself was beautiful, sexy and in fact a much
better student than him but still for Ranjeet, it
was Neha who mattered most. In spite of the fact
that he and Shikha also had a 6 year old son.
Hence while Shikha stayed at home to take care of
their son and household chores, Ranjeet spent most
of his time in office to become more successful
and be in close proximity with Neha.It hardly came
as a surprise when Shikha and Akash(Shiney
Ahuja)got attracted to each other and the
attraction soon became love.

Ironical though because while Ranjeet was successful all the way, Akash was just the opposite and could easily be labeled as a loser and a rebel without a cause.

|
|
A struggling theatre artist and a divorcee since his wife rightly believed that success was eluding him for too long, Akash was just not the perfect choice for
Shikha, even though she tended to think otherwise! Between all this, there is also an episode of
Amol, a 70 year old man who has returned to India after 40 years just for one single reason - to be with his first love Vaijanti and spend last few years of his life with her! A small world indeed since Vaijanti was Shikha's aunty, her moral support and lived in an old age home.

Shruti(Konkana Sen Sharma)who was Shikha's sister and Neha's room mate. A producer at Radio
Mirchi, she was in her 30s and is still a virgin! now she had just one mission left in life - to get hooked on to a guy and get married.
|
Two
guys came in her life soon - RJ Wishy K who worked
at the same radio station and Debu(Irrfan Khan).
While she gets into a relationship with Wishy K, her
detest for Debu was unprecedented too! An ordinary
man whom she met through a matrimonial site, Debu
was just not the kind with whom Shruti could have
spent her life. Well, at least that was the first
impression that she had!
Rahul is extremely ambitiously and discovers the
easiest way to success. Rather the key to success.
The key to his uncle’s opulent apartment where he
stays while his uncle is away. Most of the men in
his office look for places to take their mistresses,
girlfriends or prostitutes. He provides the perfect
place to release their libido. His apartment. The
cost? A recommendation for his out of turn
promotion. Even Ranjeet gets the key and takes Neha
to the apartment.
Amidst one of their escapades Neha asks Ranjeet
about their future. A commitment? Ranjeet makes it
clear that she should not even think of a
commitment. He insults her and leaves. She tries to
commit suicide. Rahul discovers her in his apartment
and takes care of her, They share some loving
moments… come closer but still she’s unsure
about him.
Vaijanti Aunty dies. Amol Uncle goes back.

| Leaving
behind the lesson and importance of undying love
for Shikha. Shruti discovers that Wishy K is a
gay. Leaves office. Joins Debu’s office. She
proposes to Debu at his wedding. But then runs
away suddenly. Ranjeet confesses his love for
Neha to Shikha. So she confesses her love for
Akash. Ranjeet gets upset and leaves home. Akash
writes to Shikha that he’s leaving the country
and she can join him if she wants. Rahul is
disillusioned with the way the metro has treated
him and is leaving town. Neha realises her folly
and chases him to the station. Shikha chases
Akash. Debu chases Shruti. They all meet or
cross each other at the railway station and go
ahead on their own paths. With lives they wanted
Or whatever the metro had destined for them.
Coming from UTV Motion Pictures METRO is the
biggest multi starrer ever from director Anurag
Basu who returns to tell an urban tale after his
emotional, hard hitting and critically acclaimed
'Gangster'. |
