| Love Story with less sugar in it! Big B has been experimenting with wide range of roles of late and Cheeni Kum is the latest addition to this impressive list. Here he plays a veteran chef and Tabu a dissatisfied customer. This film by producer Sunil Manchanda sure rouses a lot of curiosity. |

The
film is directed by debutant R Balakrishnan. He
describes the film as "a sarcastic love story
between the two characters played by Amitji and
Tabu." He says the reason he calls it a
sarcastic love story is because "it suits the
sarcasm, the coldness, the warmth and a certain
kind of humour – you know those who have
interacted with Amitji for some time would know
what it is — I call it the Amitabh Bachchan way
which I have tried to capture in the film."
As for Tabu "She is one of the fantastic
actresses we have today and teaming her with
Amitji for the first time seemed a great
idea."

Another
reason the movie is garnering a lot of publicity
is because of Amitabh Bachchan's new look which
sees him flaunting a ponytail throughout! Zohra
Sehgal and Paresh Rawal play the other two key
characters in the film.

Storyline:
|
| Buddhadev
Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) is a 64-year-old chef and
owner of London's top Indian restaurant. He lives
with his 85 year old mother and his only best
friend being his 9-year-old neighbour. Mr Gupta is
an arrogant, egoistic, pompous man with a singular
passion in life - cooking. He has been a bachelor
all these years and has never been in love until
Nina Verma (Tabu), 34 years old, walks into his
restaurant and into his life. Nina is a beautiful
and a charming woman. Cool, calm, and always
smiling, she is independent and strong willed by
nature.

| So,
two extremes in age, character and attitude meet
and against all odds fall in love. The couple
decide to get married. And, like any man, Mr
Gupta respectfully comes to ask Nina's father
for her hand. But there is a problem. Mr. Verma,
Nina's father is 58 years old and 6 years
younger than Mr Gupta, his would be son-in-law.
Cheeni Kum acts as a debut vehicle for director
Balkrishnan who has been an advertising
executive. Music director, Ilaiyaraaja, has
composed the musical score for the movie. This
film marks his Bollywood comeback after a long
break.
