Sanjay Dutt decides to emulate the Mahatma's 'Gandhigiri' at Yerawada, he has a tough legacy to live up to. Gandhi — portrayed as the moving spirit behind Dutt's Munnabhai character. Bole to, Gandhi’s spirit continues to shadow Munnabhai. After three days in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail, actor was finally moved on Thursday to Pune’s Yerawada jail, a prison where the Mahatma spent several years during the independence struggle.

Earlier in the day when Dutt emerged along with convict-friend Yusuf Nulwalla to set out for Pune a surging crowd of fans and media persons met him at the gates. Flanked by four constables, the duo stepped into a police vehicle. Unshaven and wearing a grim but composed look, the actor waved out and said, “I love my country and I have faith in the judiciary... pray for us.”

Meanwhile top Bollywood names from Hema Malini and David Dhawan to Abhishek Bachchan say the sentence of six years' rigorous imprisonment for Sanjay is too harsh a punishment for the star.

Hema Malini: I feel terrible for him. We all go through problems. I can feel the trauma his family is going through. When the legal verdict is passed there's nothing we can do or say.

David Dhawan: My wife Laali and I were with Sanju on his birthday on Sunday (July 29). We had so much fun. We were so sure that he'd come out of this. Little did we know what awaited Sanju two days later! Life's not fair! For now the industry has come to a standstill. No one wants to celebrate. No parties, no premieres.

Abhishek Bachchan: This is very upsetting.

Priyanka Chopra: I'm shocked and upset. I wish him and his family strength and courage. I'm sure the film fraternity will stand by him in every possible way. He's a wonderful person. I'm confident the Supreme Court will be lenient. I wish him all the best.

Bipasha Basu: I'm shocked. I feel very sad. He has suffered enough. His suffering should've stopped by now. All his friends feel helpless. No one can do anything.

Preity Zinta: I'm deeply saddened by this verdict. In my heart I'm saying a prayer and I'm looking above for an end to Sanjay's problems. He made a mistake, but he is not a bad guy. In fact, he's a terrific guy.

Anil Kapoor: I'm sad and shocked.

Mahesh Bhatt: I get the feeling of déjà vu. It's like a recurring nightmare, which just won't go away.

Sohail Khan: I'm speechless. This is just not expected.

Urmila Matondkar: This is extremely sad and deeply saddening.

Vikram Bhatt: Sanjay's sentence is very depressing. I can't comment on the intricacies of the law. But as a human being I feel he has suffered enough. He's not a criminal. Just a man who made a silly mistake in troubled times when it was hard to keep one's value judgement clear.

Arshad Warsi: I'm sorry I can't respond to you. If I did, it'd look like I'm trying to get publicity out of a friend's misery.

A visibly shattered Salman Khan has cancelled the birthday bash of his sister Arpita in view of the six-year jail term awarded to Sanju. Salman decline to comment but his sister Arpita explains, ‘ I am not throwing the party anymore. I was supposed to bring in my birthday at Taj Lands End, but we took a joint decision not to go ahead after Sanju bhaiya’s verdict. We are very upset and disturbed, so we informed the invitees trough SMS that the party had been cancelled.’ The decision to cancel the party was taken by the Khan household jointly (by Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan) to show the solidarity with the Dutt family in this hour of crisis.

Sanjay Dutt’s jail term has also forced the cancellation of the grand premiere of ‘ Gandhi My Father’, which was scheduled for last night at a multiplex. Even the post-premiere party, which was to be hosted by industrialist Parmeshwar Godrej , has now been cancelled in view of the Sanju’s sentence.
