District and Session Judge KR Singvi on August 7 had adjourned the proceedings after hearing the arguments by the counsel of Salman and the public prosecutor.
Salman was convicted on April 10 last year for poaching a chinkara near Ghoda Farm during the shooting of Sooraj Barjatiya`s film "Hum Saath Saath Hain". He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for five years and fined Rs. 25,000.
Meanwhile film industry is shell-shocked with the news hitting them hard. Samlan Khan’s verdict came by just 24 hours after actor Sanjay Dutt was bailed out and members of the film industry were about to smile. A look at Salman’s current worth at Bollywood says that the actor has two major projects in row for him.
Director Rumi Jaffery's God Tussi Great Ho for which Salman has to just shoot one song. The budget of this film is approximately 25 crore rupees. Next is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, for which the actor has finished shooting but there is still some, dubbing left. The budget of the film is close to 30 crore rupees.
Besides that, there is another untitled film that is a remake of the famous Telugu film Pokhri, which is also actor Prabhudeva’s directorial debut.
This film being produced by Boney Kapoor with a budget worth 25 crore rupees may also be majorly affected.
So the money riding Salman is around 75 to 80 crore rupees and that is a one-reason member’s of the film fraternity are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that Salman walks out free. Fans, friends and fraternity members are willing to see anything but the actor behind bars now. Feeling of disbelief and that celebrities are paying price for being famous and made out a scapegoat is running high in bollywood at this moment. Lets hope Salman comes clean of the mess to bail the producers out, lot of them is already in panic after Sanjay Dutt sentence few weeks ago. But if does go to prison, coming right after Sanjay Dutt's jail term, this is will be another big blow for Bollywood. Salman's co-actor in Partner, Govinda, said that Salman was being targeted and that his conviction was not a good sign for the country. ''Nothing fails like success. Controversies are often created around young stars,'' he said. ''I am praying for Salman,'' he added
