However, the songs from the album are not only a craze with the DVD and Music stores like Tip Top; it can even be heard in restaurants and hold your breath in sweet shops. Dineshbhai who works in Shakti Sweets in Harrow tells us - "Everyday I have to listen to bhajans in the morning and then in the noon when the business is a bit slow, I tune in to radio. But the songs are too loud and are not my type. One day, my friend recommended me to listen to Saawariya songs. I requested him to lend me the CD. Now every afternoon, I have to listen to ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’ and ‘Yoon Shabnami’. I have to say, 'Saawariya' is the most recommended item after my sweets."
From sweet shops to restaurants, the newly opened Babu's restaurant near Wealdstone tube station is benefiting from the music of 'Saawariya'. How? Read on Mukkadash, the owner of Babu's said - "We've opened since last three months but we've never complained about anything. Now I would like to complain to Sanjay Leela Bhansali that how does he manage make a film with such great music that every time we play the soundtrack when there are customers, they want to know what song is playing rather than know what's there on the menu. The waiters think that the person raises his hand to order something only to find out that the customer wants to know the name of the song. ‘Masha-Allah’ and ‘Jaan-E-Jaan’ are my favorite tracks."
Such is the hysteria of 'Saawariya's music that a regional newspaper company called Trinity Mirror Southern's Observer series newspaper has run a competition with 'Saawariya's music review (8 out of 10) by giving away 10 FREE music CD's to ten lucky winners.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films have always boasted of superlative music and for those who have loved the music of 'Khamoshi,' 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' and 'Devdas,' Saawariya will not disappoint you either. There are some songs, which make you start singing along, while other songs make you only want to keep listening to them, which is what makes the songs of 'Saawariya' so mesmerizing. We may not find people singing or humming the tunes, but people will definitely want to listen to these numbers again and again, in appreciation of great compositions, complimentary lyrics and a mood which transports the listener into another world.
Bhansali loves to draw a poetic parallel between his heroines and the splendid moon. Remember Chand Chupa Baadal Mein in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Woh Chand Jaisi Ladki in Devdas? In Saawariya, too, the celestial one features as a valueless competitor in front of the flawless leading lady's glory. The supremely soulful Parthiv Gohil imparts refreshing energy as he goes about singing paeans in appreciation of his beloved in Yoon Shabnami Pehle Nahi Thi Chandni.
All said and done but one thing is certain the 'Saawariya' fever catching on not only in India but overseas as well rarely we see such a hype for any Indian film music in UK so one can imagine what will happen when the film is released by none other than movie giant Sony Pictures.
A Sony Pictures executive said it was looking at releasing its film in at least half of the total single screens in the country. The company has already booked almost 30 per cent of single screens.
