The wait is over. Eight years after he last directed a film, Aditya Chopra is back helming a Yash Raj Films production. Even as his directorial debut ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ continues its record breaking run in its 13th year, Aditya is ready to direct his third film.
After directing his second film, ‘Mohabbatein’, back in 2000, Aditya had taken a conscious break from direction to set up and develop India's first studio model making Yash Raj Films a name to reckon with. In the years that followed, YRF, under the keen eye of Aditya, produced blockbusters. While Aditya was the creative producer in all these films, he also kept up with his creative juices by writing his father Yash Chopra's directorial venture ‘Veer-Zaara’ in 2004, and the stories of other films.
Aditya’s third directorial venture would be titled ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ that would star the formidable Shah Rukh Khan indeed the jodi of Adi and SRK would once again be a treat for film audiences the world over. To make the film more lavish Sonam Kapoor, the stunningly beautiful fresh face who was launched by Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Saawariya, has been finalized by Yashraj Films to play the lead character of Punjabi kudi opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
Adi, who will be returning to direction with this big budget love story, has already held several meetings with Anil Kapoor and Sonam in this regard and they have agreed to his proposal.
Sonam Kapoor will play the role of a sixteen- year- old in love with a forty- year- old man to be played by Shah Rukh Khan. Aditya Chopra’s conceptualization of the character was such that he needed a fair, tall, slim Punjabi girl for the role and Sonam Kapoor perfectly fitted the bill. As the ace director himself has written the script, he was prepared to go to any length to sign the right girl for the role and finally zeroed in on the Kapoor babe.
Earlier, Aditya Chopra had organized an extensive talent hunt search to select the perfect girl for his upcoming film. Thousands of Punjabi girls had applied and appeared for auditions in Punjab. Aditya would himself go through the short list of aspiring girls but did not find anyone suitable for the character that he had in mind.
Finally, after seeing the Sanjay Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’he approached Anil Kapoor to seek his permission to work with Sonam Kapoor. Anil Kapoor was too glad to agree to his demand and Sonam got the dream role opposite superstar of the bollywood without making any effort. After all she is just one film old and has got the chance to work not only with number one production house of the country but also with Badshah of bollywood.
It may be recalled that Sonam Kapoor’s first film ‘ Saawariya’ was made on a lavish budget by a reputed director like Sanjay Leela Bhansali but the it could not work at the box office and proved to be a disaster. Nonetheless, Sonam’s character and beauty was fully highlighted by the director and everybody was impressed with the work of the newcomer. And now Sonam seems to have reaped the benefit of ‘Saawariya’ by bagging Aditya Chopra’s film.
Hmm….hmm….seems lady luck is favoring Sonam who got Badshah Shahrukh Khan as her hero in a Yashraj film….but SRK too has not much to complain about as he is getting younger (as much as half his age, no??) heroines in every new
film…..hee…tee…hee!!
