| But if the intention was to avoid controversy by not using the word ‘Badshah’, then Shah Rukh Khan is also referred to, as King Khan of bollywood and the use of this word too will fuel rivalry and controversy. However, the makers felt that after the phenomenal success of Akshay Kumar’s movies at the box office, the time has come now that he be crowned with the ‘King of bollywood’ title and there could not be more suitable time for that than the Vipul Shah’s upcoming film ‘Singh is Kinng.’ So they decided to go ahead with the promos.
Katrina Kaif is playing the love interest of Akshay in the upcoming Vipul Shah’s flick. She was also the heroine of Akki in ‘Namastey London’ and the film had proved to be a blockbuster at the box office. They have sparkling on screen chemistry, which is loved by the audiences.
Hmm…. in any case….if SRK is Badshah and Big B is Shehanshah …then Akki is undoubtedly the King of bollywood, no??
Akshay, when quizzed while he was shooting for Singh Is Kinng in the colorful khets of Chandigarh. The khiladi who plays a Sikh in this one, reminisced about Baisakhi when he was just an ordinary lad. "Every day began at 5.30 am for my grandma and me. We used to visit the Sheeshganj Gurudwara in the early hours. Baisakhi was beautiful. It meant food and more food. And if you blinked, there would be even more food," said the now health conscious
Akshay, smiling.
With a choc-a-bloc diary, visits to the Gurudwara musn’t be frequent? "There’s a certain sense of pride and calm in visiting a Gurudwara. No matter what country I visit, there is always a place for me to worship," insists Akshay, "Punjabis are spread far and wide. It may not be possible for me to visit a Gurudwara everyday like earlier, but God is within me, and I remember him every minute of every day."
Now with the hits under his belt, has Akshay become the King of bollywood? He humbly states, "I’m no King! I remain but just the son of the soil!" |
