| The actress started her career from her stints in television. From 1998 onwards, Vidya appeared in numerous ads, many of which were directed by Pradeep Sarkar. She also took supporting roles in music videos, appearing with singers and bands such as Euphoria, Shubha Mudgal and Pankaj Udhas. Balan also portrayed the role of Radhika Mathur in a few episodes of the hit serial Hum Paanch. |

Vidya Balan made her Hindi film debut with Parineeta (2005), for which she received a Film fare Best Female Debut Award and received her first commercial success with Rajkumar Hirani's Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006). Balan had established herself as one of the most promising actresses of the industry. She won a lot of accolades for her performances from the critics as well as her fans. Everyone had a lot of expectations from the actress.
However, it seems that she has not been able to capitalize on her initial success. She has got hardly any movies in her kitty. However, she had her chance to make it big. She was to play a role in Yash Raj’s Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, but refused it due to date problems. She was also offered a role in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, but she refused it, as the role involved a lot of dances. Although the movie did not fare well, she could have got the chance to work with one of the best production houses.
Now again, director Pradeep Sarkar approached her and once again she has refused. He wanted for her to star opposite Abhishek Bachchan in a future venture, but Vidya has no dates in her diary for him. She has already committed that window to Sajid Khan and his next film. Refusing a Yash Raj film, not once, but twice, was indeed a brave decision.
Her two movies in 2007, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007) and Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007) failed to do well. But the latter was selected as India's official entries to the Oscars for the
80th Academy Awards. This year also, her film Halla Bol came and went without even getting noticed. We wonder where Vidya’s career is heading?
But the good news is that the classical Indian beauty who impressed all in ‘Parineeta’ has been finalized by filmmaker Balki for his next project ‘Pa’.
Vidya Balan has snatched the project from Tabu, who had featured in Balki’s earlier film ‘Cheeni Kum’ with Amitabh Bachchan and the movie was fairly successful at the box office.
The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Tabu was replaced as her working chemistry with Balki had deteriorated after the release of ‘Cheeni Kum’ and he did not want to work again with the talented actress. The relation between Tabu and Balki has gone to such a low level that the gorgeous actress had refused to thank him in a formal way during an award ceremony recently.

‘Pa’ has Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead but this time Big B won’t get the heroine, as was the case in Balki’s earlier ‘Cheeni Kum.’ In the upcoming ‘Pa’, Vidya Balan will play the love interest of Junior B and is paired opposite him. The film is likely to go on the floors by the end of this year.
Vidya who is lately seen endorsing brands. She was recently appointed as the brand ambassador of Toshiba. Endorsing brands is a good thing. But we would surely like to see more of the talented actress on the big screen in the time to come. |
