WE catch up with the devoted husband to discover just how dizzy the ride has been. "I'm often asked to sum up the year that was," smiles Abhishek. "It's a beautiful journey and summing it up is really not possible. It's been such an experience that one would like it to continue lifelong.
"It's a sentiment mutually felt. Aishwarya, said, "I still feel like a newly-wed. I wish there were more minutes and more hours in day. There’s so much to look after you belong to a larger family and then there are professional commitments."
Ask Abhishek if there are challenges and he replies, "Of course". We ask him what makes Aishwarya such a perfect wife and the otherwise monosyllabic Abhishek opens up.
"As one grows up, one creates a certain image of the wife one would wish to spend one's life with. Aishwarya as a daughter as a daughter-in-law, as a wife, as a sister, is much more than what one could think of. She surpasses manifold my idea of the kind of life partner I'd desired." Says visibly moved Abhi Baby.
Aishwarya dressed in stylish jeans, a simple lightweight brown jacket and five-inch wedge heels (the better to be seen next to her 6’3” husband, Abhishek), reflected on what goes through her mind a year after their much-hyped marriage. Ash revealed that she has put several plans on the back burner since getting married to Abhishek.
Rai will be seen in early 2009 in “Pink Panther 2,” co-starring with Steve Martin and John Cleese, and is reportedly in production for Roland Joffe’s “Singularity” and Zachary Coffin’s “Bhopal Movie.” She also holds the Indian distribution rights to the Weinstein Company-produced 2007 thriller “The Last Legion,” in which she starred as a sword-wielding warrior. But she says she has curtailed her projects to enjoy married life. “I have the rights to release ‘The Last Legion,’ but my focus was on getting married,” she said.
Rai has also stayed at a distance from her official Web site “The site is on hold for reconstruction,” she explained. “My life is under reconstruction! But soon, we will launch a fun site about the whole [Bachchan] family.”
Trashing rumours about wife Aishwarya losing out the Nakshatra diamond jewellery endorsement to Katrina Kaif, Abhishek said it was his spouse who had taken the call to pull out. Aishwarya has been the brand ambassador for Nakshatra diamond jewellery since 2004 and Katrina is now the new face for the brand. "Nakshatra was discontinued by Aishwarya. It is false news that she lost out the endorsement to Katrina Kaif. Aishwarya had some conditions and the company did not come to terms with this, so she called it off," Abhishek cleared the rumours.
The actor, who is busy with the "Unforgettable" tour in the US, also explained the philosophy behind endorsement deals.
"Endorsements are not a competition. Nobody loses an endorsement. It is just that sometimes the technicalities don't work out between the endorser and the brand. At the end of the day, an endorser is asked to endorse a product because one's image looks best suited to the brand," said Abhishek who is the brand ambassador of Omega watches.
This is the second time this year that Katrina has overtaken Aishwarya in terms of popularity and endorsements. Earlier, Katrina replaced her as the Bollywood star with the maximum number of downloads and searches on the Internet.
