Her debut film Boom, in which she stars opposite Amitabh Bachchan, bombed and she was quickly written off, especially as she did not know Hindi. But acquiring high-profile boyfriend Salman Khan was proved the turning point in her rapid rise to fame. But then one can't play down the fact that the British Asian Kaif’s last five films (Namastey London, Partner, Welcome, Race, Singh is Kinng) have all been blockbusters. The turn around has come as a surprise as her voice has been dubbed in all her movies and critics have consistently found her acting and dancing skills wanting.
Is this the ultimate triumph of mediocrity over real talent in beauty-obsessed Bollywood? Kaif herself is surprised at her success: “It is humbling. I am one of the few actors who have been given a second chance in this industry. I am extremely proud of all my films.”
The hottest actor in Bollywood is all set to smile her way to stardom. She has recently signed yet another film with Akshay, the lucky pair has teamed for the fourth time for Venus' De Dhana Dhan. The production house has chosen none other than Priyadarshan to direct the film, which will be a comedy. De Dhana Dhan will put rest to rumours circulating in Bollywood that Akshay and Katrina will not be seen together on screen again after ‘Singh Is Kinng’ because Salman didn't want Katrina to work with Akshay.
Besides being the lucky charm for the producers, Katrina is also considered greatly in the endorsement circles. Lately she had signed the most prestigious jewellery brand Nakshatra, endorsed by Aishwarya Rai earlier, which was synonymous with power.
Nakshatra signifies success and Katrina fits the bill perfectly, as evidenced by her 6 successive hits in a row, a record of sorts in Bollywood. Officials of Nakshatra are ecstatic over the new signing as the sales of Nakshatra has accelerated and has tripled coinciding with the festival season and the fact that she's lucky Mascot that's why the campaign is called 'Goddess of Luck'. Indeed Katrina has got the Midas touch.
But success has not gone to her head and she still believes in doing her chores herself. “Katrina has not got carried away by her success she continues to be herself,” said a source close to the actress.
The source said people were surprised to see the British-born actress carrying her own luggage at an airport even though her chaperones were with her. “Sandhya, Katrina’s secretary, was with her and though she insisted that she’d carry her luggage Katrina just did not allow her to do so! Katrina said, ‘It is my luggage and I will carry it myself’. “Katrina usually prefers to do her tasks on her own. Success has not spoilt her at all,” added the source.
Katrina has displaced top-rung actors, including Kareena Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra but friends close to her say’s “Katrina has learnt that success and failure are transitory and that one should not get carried away by them. She firmly believes in keeping her head placed on her shoulders.”
Katrina might be the most desirable, glamorous and top-notch heroine in the B-town, but her priorities are set right. We try to catch up with the busy star and ask her some hot questions on hot topics and to our pleasure she did not disappoint us and gave straight from heart answers.. What’s her take on Salman –Shah Rukh Khan ongoing war?
Enough has been said about it; I really don’t want to carry on with this topic. My relationship with Salman stays. Beyond that I have nothing to
say.
Does katrina feels she had a decent run at the box office? ...Decent enough to be the higest paid actress?
Well, I couldn’t be more grateful, I am one of the few actors who have been given second chance in industry. It’s humbling, really! I cannot thank god enough for
it.
Katrina might have become the most sought after actress with the maximum number of box office hits but does she see any growth in herself as an actress?
For me it was with Namastey London that I felt I had finally managed to acquire some kind of standing in my eyes an actress. I am pretty young still. Give me a while ...I am not in the frame of mind to be doing films like Black etc. I still want to enjoy myself. I want to do films, which compliment my age. Why should I be in hurry to grow older and make morbid cinema in the name of turning into mature actress?
Doesn't she feel unfortunate that she cannot work with whole lot of people her age thanks to Salman?
Well, if I want to keep looking for reasons to crib then I'd be the unhappiest person in the world. I shall be forever grateful to Salman for being a friend to me at a time when I was so new in the industry. Now, if because of this friendship I am not getting a few films or roles, I would be fool to crib about it. In the Khan household I have a family away from home. I have people I can fall back on. If that costs be a little I shouldn’t be greedy and
sulk!
