"I didn't do 'Rab Ne...' in the hope of doing a full-length role with Shah Rukh and Aditya Chopra. That one-day of shooting with Shah Rukh was memorable. He's the nicest superstar I've ever met and irresistibly charming. This was my chance to dance."
Asked how she felt about John flaunting his well-toned body in Dostana, Bipasha said: "Ranbir Kapoor showed his bum in Saawariya. How come no one raised any eyebrows? It was not so drastic with John. He has a fantastic body. If a woman on a beach can be appreciated why not a man on the beach? If you are comfortable with your body and you can carry it off with grace like John did, why not? I'm proud of what John has achieved.”
Bipasha, who turned 30 recently say’s she is really proud and content with her life "It's been a fantastic year for me, both personally and professionally. Family is great. Boyfriend is great. Everything is fine. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I'm actually surprised the year went so well. I even got time to watch my niece and nephew grow. Yes, I've spent one more beautiful year productively."
Told that she needs to have children of her own, Bipasha said: "No, no I don't have the patience for kids. I can't bear to have my seven-year-old nephew around for more than two hours. He's a talkative brat. My one-year-old niece is an item number. She dances superbly to the worst songs so yes, another actress coming up in my family. And she's the first light-eyed fair-skinned Basu girl in the family."
The actress is currently shooting for Rahul Dholakia's hard-hitting drama Lamhaa. After vanishing for months and keeping silent Bips is back with us lets exchanges news-‘n’-views with Bipasha Basu.
Long time, no see where have you vanished?
I haven’t spoken to the media because there wasn’t much to talk about. Throughout December, I shot for Rahul Dholakia’s Lamha in Film City. Before that, I completed Aa Dekhen Zara with Neil Nitin Mukesh. Since August, I’ve also been busy overseeing the renovation work at my house. It’s driving me mad it should be ready by May, so I’ll shift in June.
2008 had begun on a good note for you with Race and Bachna Ae Haseeno. But after that, it was all quiet.
Well, a couple of more releases like Pankh and (the Bengali film) Shobo Charitro Kalponik were also due. But they’re both different kind of films and need to first make the film festival rounds. You’ll have to ask Sanjay Gupta (the producer) about Pankh and also let me know about it.
Why haven’t you been signing more movies?
Since quite a while, I’ve been doing only about three films a year. I don’t want to do more just for the heck of it. I want to enjoy my work and feel proud of my performances at the end of the day. And there’s no point in doing something I’ve already done before. I’m in talks for a couple of projects, which I should be able to confirm in a month or two.
After eight years in show biz, was it necessary to do a test photo-shoot for Lamha?
That was a look test, which I do at the beginning of every film. Yash Raj Films and most producers and directors insist on a look test to get the make-up, hairstyle and outfits right before rolling instead of wasting time when the shoot is on.
Have you really patched up with Kareena Kapoor who once gave you a tough time during Ajnabee?
Kareena and I aren’t the same persons we were back then we have matured. So the way we think and behave is not at all like the Ajnabee days.
But your cold war with Katrina Kaif
continues...
Oof, we’re not exactly the best of friends..
Seems your boyfriend John Abraham too didn’t interact with her while shooting New York beyond work.
I can’t speak for my boyfriend. You’ll have to ask John that question.
What’s your take on John Abraham’s dostana with Abhishek Bachchan?
I just loved their act. I’ve seen Dostana five times and enjoyed it every time.
With his bare body in Dostana, John Abraham has become eye candy No 1 for women, hasn’t he?
He has worked hard to build a great body and continues working just as hard to maintain it. He bared it even in his first film Jism. But the manner in which he tugged his trunks drew a lot of attention. The more you report about something, the more attention it draws.
Last year, there was a strong buzz that John and you were about to be engaged.
Thankfully there have been no such rumours this time. Ha ha. But you never know apart from our engagement, during our six-year relationship we’ve heard about our break-up, patch-up, marriage plans the works. Anyway, chalta hai.
