Sonam gushes, "I think Abhishek is a wonderful guy. I really love him. He has such a handsome and charming personality.I am working with him for the first time and it's a wonderful experience."
But the buzz going round was that AB Baby didn't even spare Sonam from falling prey to his tom foolery and that she burst into tears! Sonam is quick to defend Abhishek and explains “The prank started with Allan asking me to do a stunt without wearing a safety harness. I refused to follow the order of Allan. That is when Abhishek intruded our conversation and pushed me to do the stunt and follow Allan's orders. He asked me how I can say no to Allan in spite of just being a film old in the industry.”
"He stormed off the sets and locked himself in his vanity van refusing to continue the shoot. Allan Amin went running after him to persuade him to get back to work. Abhishek didn't budge and that is when I broke down. I burst into tears as I actually believed Abhishek and thought that I had offended him by refusing to follow his suggestions. When I realized thatI was just Abhishek's 'bakra', I couldn't stop laughing," revealed Sonam.
Laughing enormously she added, "Abhishek is a genuinely good guy. Very rarely you come across such people in Bollywood. He is sweet and his nice behaviour talks highly of his protective upbringing. His parents have raised him really well. He is a thorough gentleman with a terrific sense of humour."
It seems the newcomer that she is, Sonam doesn't pay any attention to rumors of link-ups and affairs with actors in the film industry. In fact when asked about her alleged affair with Ranbir Kapoor earlier or with Kunal Kapoor currently, Sonam expresses surprise and says, "I never had any affair either with Kunal or Ranbir. Ranbir is a great friend of mine. We still meet and enjoy our time together. There is nothing like any affair between two of us."
Sonam says that she was quite surprised when she came to know about how she was being linked with Kunal Kapoor. "I think till today as far as I remember I haven't met Kunal more than twice or thrice. There is not an iota of truth in all these rumours."
On being asked about her Bollywood journey so far, the lively actress expresses satisfaction and says, "I owe everything to my father. Whatever I am today, it's only because of him. I have inherited fame and recognition. I have to do a lot to establish myself."
“I did my first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and my second film ‘Delhi-6′ is with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. These are big names and I am on top of the world. I am not at all an underdog. I am Anil Kapoor’s daughter. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth" She added with proud.
The glamorous Kapoor, who plays Bittu in Delhi 6, a character she said represents the ordinary youth of India, said she feels a responsibility to her fans. "If young girls are looking at me, I cannot shirk my responsibility to conduct myself in a certain way."
Sonam maintained that though Saawariya, which was released in 2007 failed to click at the box office, it brought her critical acclaim and she got whatever she needed from the film. The 23-year-old actress stressed that she is very much in the league of young actors like her “Saawariya” co-star Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who debuted same year with hit movie “Om Shanti Om”. In fact, Deepika walked away with the Filmfare award for best female debut last year. "Awards are important and it was important for me to win one for ‘Saawariya’. I was quite upset that I didn’t get the award" she said.
Sonam, who has recently signed a comic caper Come On Pappu with Akshay Kumar, finds comparison with Deepika unfair. "I can’t compare myself with Deepika. She is doing mostly commercial roles and I am not. She is signing more films, but I want to do one film at a time. It takes nearly a year for a film to be made and that’s why I am being seen lesser than her" said Sonam.
‘Come On Pappu’ will be jointly produced by Akshay and Percept. It was being expected that Deepika would be picked for the project but after the failure of CC2C Akshay has decided to look for a new female face and has settle on Sonam, whose film Delhi 6 is up for release soon. It seems to quite a coincidence that Akshay has decided to settle on Deepika's one-time rival. But both the initial rounds went to Deepika, whose film was a bigger hit and she even got Ranbir. But it seems Sonam may just have the last laugh.
