| Salman observed, “What Shah Rukh does or says is not of the least interest to me but he is one of the most insecure actors. If he could get rid of that he would actually be a nice fellow. When we were all starting out in our careers, and were in the Rs 4 to 5 lakh bracket, we were friends. As we became more and more famous, he grew more insecure.” |

Earlier, on the show he blamed the media for the quick turnover of girlfriends some actors have (read himself). “Two people may have just begun dating, they need time to know one another, to understand one another and you people start writing that they are in a relationship. That puts an awful amount of pressure on them and they are almost forced to get into a relationship,” he ranted. Then he added, “When they find they are not terribly compatible and don’t want to take the relationship further, you people say, he is changing girlfriends all the time.” Huh?
When asked how he was uniformly cordial with his visitors on the television show he does for another channel, responding smilingly to intrusive questions about girlfriends and marriage while the same from a media person would elicit nothing but a growl, he explained, “The difference is intention. They are being nice, you people want to corner me and get me to say something provocative.”

In these 20 years, you have done films, which went on to become big blockbusters and some that were complete washouts. Do you get upset when a film doesn't work or flops?
Sometimes a film turns out superb and sometimes it just doesn't work. There are also times when an actor tells the director not to make a film in a certain way, but then the director tells you to trust him and you have to. And then when the film doesn't do well, I realise that I told the director the same thing. Now days what I've started doing is, I tell the directors that I've heard enough of 'trust me' and people ultimately say 'Salman's film didn't work' so I tell them to trust me now that I've been in the industry for 20 years.
Your new film Wanted is an all out action film. It's been a long time since you have done an action film? Did you enjoy returning to that?
It's out and out action it's physical action. Doing 90 days of action sequences starting from 10:00 am in the morning and then going to the gym after that. It gets very painful.
You are known to be an emotional guy. You go all out for your friends and the people who you don't like have to face the wrath of Salman Khan? Are friendships and enmities permanent in this business?
There is nothing like that. I just don't hang out with them anymore. That is it. When one is growing up it's different. But today you come to a stage where there are no friends. Most people who you meet are just acquaintances and whom you get along with. Everyone should realise that your childhood friends and your family are all you need.
Is there reconciliation possible between you and Shah Rukh? Do you miss the friendship?
No, I mean he's doing fine. He doesn't miss me, it's not like he is crying over me. He's doing good work and he is good to the people he works for. He is at one end of Bandstand and I'm at the beginning of Bandstand. We weren't that close anyway. We used to hang out together once in a while. We did quite a few films and had a laugh. We had a problem earlier as well, and one night it just happened. People have fights; it's just the next morning it was taken to a different level. If everything were sorted out that night itself, perhaps, things would have been fine. But I guess there was a different agenda.
Did you ever come close to getting married?
Yes there was, it was at 3:30 in the morning and it lasted till 4:00 am. Then at 4:30 am I was fast asleep. (He jokes)
You think you will eventually marry an actress?
I have no idea.
Was there ever a girl you wanted to get married to but she wasn't ready?
It's better that the girl should not be ready to get married than the guy. If the girl is ready to get married and you don't want to get married to the girl, it's not a good situation. So I always hope that the girl should not be ready to get married. It's lot less painful and the guilt is a lot lesser.
Would you ever hide your marriage?
I have not been good at hiding things ever. So I don't think marriage would stay a secret.

Would you expect your wife to stop working if you got married?
No I would not.
Are you a good boyfriend?
I've heard not.
Katrina says she watches all your films but you don’t watch any of her films?
Yes I don't. Once I saw she was wearing a really small skirt and I didn't like it. But then you have to sometimes chill and let it go. And I don't have a choice, and it's better to stay away from those things. I mean I see the promos and get an idea of what is going to be in the film, so it's better to stay away from that.
Do you advise her on her career?
No, she's a grown up girl. Initially I did, but after that you have to let them go. She's good at making her own decision about choosing films and what to do. I don't even go to any of her sets because there was this whole reputation that I land up on my girlfriend's sets. I've been labelled and aggressive boyfriend, so I now I stay away from all that stuff.
What do you do when you bump into ex-girlfriends?
I'm very cordial. In fact I'm friends with most of them and I've heard they have high regards for me. At least that is what I've heard. I'm in touch with most of them except one. I have been for their weddings except one. So, it's all-good.
