For a girl who was almost rejected 6 years back, it has been kind of a surreal dream to be actually reaching at this stage where she cannot just pick and choose projects but perhaps also leading men Does she get impacted by people's adulation?
Actually even at the beginning of my career, I never felt rejected. I was still working hard and believed in myself. I wasn't in a hurry and was picking and choosing projects carefully even then when I was just a newcomer. Frankly, I take it all with a pinch of salt. One can never get too carried away in this industry because at the end of the day, it doesn't achieve you anything at all. The best way is to look at the work you are doing and continue to make careful choices.
Everybody feels that Katrina and Ranbir make the hottest on-screen pair and should be seen in more movies. What’s your take on it?
Of course, if a good film comes in, I would love to do a film with Ranbir. However, I can't just look at my co-star –- I should have an amazing role, the script should be good and so should be the director. It was really nice working with Ranbir. As soon as I saw him on the first day of work, I realized that he has an immense amount of passion and dedication for work. Having someone like him on the sets really pushes you and inspires you to work hard and try hard.
Sanjay Gadhvi’s say’s ‘7 Days In Paris’ is shelved, because you opted out of the film after knowing that your role was drastically reduced by Imran Khan?
That’s complete rubbish. My interactions with Imran have been super sweet. I think he’s a really nice actor and I would love to work with him. He’s a lovely actor. He’s a complete sweetheart. I think I have done enough films to understand which one’s right or wrong for me. I have a right to take that decision.
Time and again, the industry people compare your body of work with your fellow contemporaries like Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Where do you stand in the race?
I’m not in any race for anything. I’m competing with myself to do as much good work as I can by doing good films, good roles and continuously try and grow as an actor. I hope my films do well at the box-office so that I can take steps ahead as an actor.
Do you think you’re capable enough to do powerful and performance-oriented roles like ‘Rajneeti’?
Of course I do. If a director believes I can play any character, I would definitely attempt to play any character in the world with a 100 percent conviction. Prakashji has very beautifully written the film. The way Prakashji defines his characters is really amazing and special for relatively new actors like me. When I met Prakashji for the script narration, I was really happy with the whole idea of the film. I thought I would do such a film maybe a little later in my career. But I couldn’t stop myself so I said yes there and then.
How have things changed for you since your past few hits? Since you were already commanding the highest price, what else changes?
Nothing changes. You’re happy. You appreciate the success of your films. You work hard and keep on going ahead in life and try doing better work. People pay me what I deserve. I think a lot of actors do films based on their instincts. If I feel a particular script that’s offered to me is worth attempting, I go for it.
It’s heard that you are not being considered for the ‘Partner’ sequel. There were reports that the makers are contemplating Govinda’s daughter Narmmadaa Ahuja. There was also news that you decided to back out from the project.
There are too many people circulating false information in such less time for people like me to even think about and comment on it. The script of ‘Partner’ is not ready yet. As and when it gets done, let’s see what happens. As of now, I have no idea about the film.
It’s heard that Salman hasn’t seen some of your best movies. Is it true? Does it hurt you considering that you’re working hard and he’s just not bothered?
He says he chooses not to watch my films maybe because he doesn’t get the time. There’s nothing wrong in that.
Sohail Khan commented recently that Katrina is already a family member, even though both you and Salman have never admitted to your relationship in public.
I
have been very close to the whole family for the past five years. And Salim sahab and aunty (Salman’s mother) have been overwhelmingly kind and generous to me. Sohail is a very dear friend and Alvira Khan has been one of the closest people in my life. I’m really grateful to them. I owe them a lot for their support and love they have given me.
Will you marry Salman?
I wouldn’t like to comment on that.
Apparently, Salman was very upset with you when he got to know that you were contemplating doing a film with SRK, produced by Yash Raj Films?
I don’t know about any film like this. I believe people have to get away from this ridiculous conception that Salman gets upset every five minutes over something. Salman is busy in his own career. He has a very wonderful life. I don’t think he has got the time and energy to be getting angry about stupid things.
