The Mexican actress had checked out some videos of Hrithik on YouTube and conveyed her misgivings to the Roshans. When Hrithik learnt that the actress who was supposed to be his co-star in such a big project was having second thoughts, he immediately took some corrective action.
When he met Barbara before the shooting of Kites, he gave her DVDs of three of his films - Koi Mil Gaya, Lakshya and Dhoom 2 and that did the trick. When contacted Hrithik explains, "When dad approached Barbara for Kites and told her I would be her co-actor, she logged on to the Internet and saw some of my rubbish videos on YouTube. She wasn't very excited. When she met me, I wanted her to see some of my better work so that she was convinced that I was a good actor and performer. I made sure she saw all the DVDs because she didn't have a clear picture about Indian cinema. It also changed her opinion about me.”
When asked about Barbara's reaction after watching the films, Hrithik said, "Not only she, but everyone from her side who saw these three films was very, very impressed.”
Hrithik and Mori will give their combustive chemistry one more spin on a beach in the Maldives when they film a commercial for the promotion of Kites. The commercial is for a leading clothing brand and will be aired during the weeks leading up to the release of Kites on May 21.
The concept behind the double whammy promotional is to fan past speculation around Hrithik and Barbara's rumoured on set romance during the filming of Kites, to promote the clothing brand as well as the film! The suggestion went well with the brand managers; Hrithik explained the concept to Barbara and she was game immediately. We are sure Hrithik's persuasive skills charmed Barbara.
Hrithik and Barbara will be spending considerable time together abroad to promote their film, Kites. The promos of the flick amply reveal their sizzling chemistry. Barbara arrives in Mumbai on May 7. And although producer Rakesh Roshan has blocked her dates till May 28 to silence all the whispers about her association with her Kites leading man, it has been decided that her stay in Mumbai would be curtailed to just four days. She will then take off to the US for a three-city premiere (Los Angeles, New York and Dallas) for the English version of Kites. And yes, Hrithik's wife Sussanne would be accompanying the screen couple on the US leg of the tour.
Says Rakesh Roshan, "Hrithik and Barbara will be flying down for the three-city US premiere in the second week of May. Once there, we'll gauge the response to the film at the LA, New York and Dallas premieres and then move accordingly." The English version of Kites is half an hour shorter than the Hindi version and won't be releasing in India. Adds Roshan Sr, "The Hindi version is 30 minutes longer because we have five songs in that version. These have been taken out of the English one."
Australian composer Graeme Revell who has scored music for over 150 films and TV series has been roped in at the last minute to do the background score for the English version of Kites. Papa Roshan reasons, "We needed a different sound texture to connect the emotions to the Western audience. So, we got Revell. Salim-Suleiman have done the background score in the Hindi version while my brother Rajesh Roshan has composed the songs. Otherwise, the two versions are exactly the same."
