The date of relase for I Hate Luv Storys has been fixed for July 2, while Aisha has now been pushed to August. This change was made on Sonam's behest who decided that it was best that Punit's film release ahead of her own production.
Initially, Aisha was to release some time in July. A source says, "It didn't make sense for Sonam to have two releases in the same month. So, Aisha was moved to August. Also, since I Hate Luv Storys is now in its post-production stage and will be marketed lavishly, it was a better proposition to release it early."
But if the rumours are to be believed there is another love story that is responsible for all the changes taking place. With 20-plus youngsters making their directorial debuts, there is suddenly an option (a better one?) than the hero, to fall in love with the men who wield the maximum power on a set.
Director Punit Malhotra and his leading lady Sonam are obsessed with each other. Cynics say that the future of this relationship lies in the fate of the film at the box-office. Cruel though that may seem, that is a Bollywood reality. Most of the cast and crew of the film are in their 20s and it wasn’t long before they all became friends. The team worked hard and they partied hard. When the unit of IHLS saw sparks developing between the actress and the director, no one was shocked or surprised. This wasn’t a crowd that judged.
One thing that everyone agreed on was that the whole “budding romance” was being cleverly stage-managed by Sonam, who had taken a liking to her single and attractive director. When Kapoor and Malhotra were not shooting, they were often spotted having dinner and coffee at various hotspots in Mumbai. But they made sure to always be seen as part of a group. For whose sake was this charade is not entirely clear. But when they were shooting abroad, those reservations vanished. They hung out together and went out by themselves.
News of the Sonam-Punit romance reached the city before the unit did and that’s where trouble began. KJo felt that Punit should’ve been more responsible. Punit has a lot more riding on the film, Sonam is already established, and doesn’t stand to lose a lot if something goes wrong but for Punit this is a make-or-break situation.
A source from the production house tells us, “Punit really pampers Sonam. She is always given preferential treatment. And she acts like a diva.” Quite naturally than, Sonam is super-excited about her July 2, release, Punit Malhotra’s I Hate Luv Stories.
Sonam say’s “I was pampered by everyone from Punit to Karan,’’ she smiles. She admits to having got along like a house on fire with Imran, though on screen they’re constantly pulling each other’s legs. “I personally like guys who have a great sense of humour, are well brought up, and have a good body. I like the concept of tall, dark and handsome. Imran is a super talented actor and kept me on my toes as an actress.’’
Praising the film the actress said, “It’s a fabulous film and, it has me playing me. I’m playing Simran who advocates love stories, whereas Imran Khan is Jay, and he’s a cynic. Of course, everyone knows that opposites attract and that is what happens in our case.’’
Gushing uncontrollably about IHLS, Sonam adds, “I loved working with Karan Johar. He is one guy who treats me like an individual. He knows my dad, Anil Kapoor, but when he approached me to play the lead in his film, he spoke to me like an independent person who makes her own decisions.’’
Recommending IHLS to everyone who believes in love, Sonam says, “The nice thing about love stories is that they bring a smile to your face.’’ She’s excited Aisha — her release after IHLS, is also a romantic film. “Yet they are so different in their approach. I don’t want to give away too much,’’ she says, “but I can tell you that as an actor, both have been equally challenging. And for the audience, both will be equally entertaining.’’
News about their so-called affair may have provided a bit of publicity for Punit's directorial venture but Punit says that there is no truth to the rumours talking for the first time about Sonam, Punit says, "All that is being written about Sonam and me is rubbish. I am very much single." He refused to comment further.
Sonam's next stint will be a long schedule in Canada for Anees Bazmee's Thank You opposite Akshay. Later, the actress will return and begin shoot for Pankaj Kapoor's Mausam opposite Shahid.
Well some love stories come with an expiry date the equation between B-Town couples change suddenly remember (Kareena-Shahid, Priyanka-Harman, Ranbir-Deepika).
