They would never rate each other professionally says the most sought after onscreen and off screen couple and analysing each other at work is the last thing on their mind "We don't rate each other. We just like working with each other as co-actors. Abhishek is a very free actor. He breaks himself free. He works as a team member and doesn't act as a male lead or anything of that sort (on work). He is a teammate fulfilling his director's vision in every which manner he can and a pleasure to work with.” Say’s the former Miss World-turned doting wife.
They are becoming a habit with each other. The husband-wife duo confesses that they thoroughly enjoy working with each other Abhishek say’s "We don't criticise our performances. As a wife, Aishwarya has always been equally and completely supportive and more than that as a co-actor, she does everything to make it go right. She does not ever compromise even on her co-star's work,” added the actor.
When asked if the superstar couple discuss movies in the confines of their bedroom, the couple jointly said, “No, we leave our work behind in the studios. Home is our personal space... and we have a lot to talk about other than work.”
The Bachchan duo were all praises for the director Mani Ratnam, saying that it was because of him that they realised their true potential. Abhishek said that the filmmaker was the only one in the industry who knew his true potential as an actor. "I think Mani is the only one who knows my true talent. He knows it better than I know myself. He shows me what I am capable of. After I did Yuva, I could not believe it was me on the screen doing a character like Lallan. Same goes with Guru."
Meanwhile, Aishwariya called Ratnam her reason for being in the industry. Ash had started her film career with Iruva, a film by the director. "After my Miss World win I wasn't sure which career path should I choose. I was planning to complete my studies in architecture. But then one fine day I was told that Mani Ratnam would like to discuss a role with me and that was it. It was some God send message. I could not believe that Mani Ratnam wanted to work with me. He is an institution in himself and his cinema speaks volumes”, she added.
Abhishek claimed that he had chosen to do Raavan only because of the director. "If any other filmmaker would have come to me with a script like 'Raavan' I would have said no because I know that I am not capable to do a character like Beera but it is Mani who always shows such confidence in my talent which is unbelievable."
Meanwhile, Ratnam paid back in compliment, saying the role of Beera in his upcoming film, was meant for Abhishek only. "Half of my work is done after I decide my star cast. Everytime I come with Abhishek it is about doing something different which he has not done before. It is challenging for both me and him and we always start from the scratch when we start something new."
Giving an instance of this, Ratnam added, "For Beera I was so worried because Abhishek is so proper. Beera is this badly behaved character and I had to ask Abhishek to learn bad words and be abusive all the time... just let go to get right."
Abhishek who hopped to seven locations across the Mumbai to promote "Raavan", was overwhelmed to see fans going crazy for him and said he never knew that so many people know him. "I like to promote my films myself. I want to go out to the audience and tell them about the film directly. It's a good fun. I was shocked by people's response. I never knew that so many people know me. Honestly. I was shocked to see so many people showed up," said Abhishek
People across the road were seen shouting his name and clicking photographs from their mobile phones. Aishwarya Rai, who didn't accompany Abhishek during the rally, as she was busy in other promotional activities, joined him at the conference. "I was also busy with other promotional activities. It was decided that Veera (Abhishek) and his troupe would be out. So I made sure that at the last stop I will come and join
them.”
"Raavan" features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as a dance teacher who is happily married to a policeman, played by Tamil superstar Vikram, and shows how Veera causes mayhem in their lives. Asked if she planning anything like Abhishek to connect with her audience, she just said, "Wait and watch. There are couple of days for the film to release, so wait and watch". Releasing Friday, the movie has been co-produced by Reliance BIG Pictures and Madras Talkies.
