Rukh Khan has to don prosthetic make up for 8 to 10 hours a day without a break, even though the make up makes it impossible for him to eat or drink. Removing the make up is not possible either as it is a very delicate cast and even the slightest pressure can break it. It takes hours for the artists to redo it again. As a result, he has lost around 5 kgs since shooting began. However, his doctors believe the situation has not yet reached alarming proportions and Shah Rukh will be back to his old self once shooting ends.
SRK will sport one of Bollywood's most expensive body suits throughout the film. The suit, that was custom made for King Khan in Los Angeles, cost a whopping $220,000. In order to make the latex-like outfit, the star had to receive a warm liquid on his body that became hard as it dried and then had to be taken off.
"Ra.One is a superhero film. There is a good guy, there is a bad guy, there is a beautiful girl, there is a wonderful singer and a fantastic director," say’s SRK.
"It's a kind of film, a genre we guys haven't tried at 'Red Chilies.' On behalf of the whole team, I would like to try and I hope we succeed. It's a new thing for all of us, so we are giving it our best shot," he added.
Shah Rukh says he doesn't make movies to earn money anymore "My mantra for work changed five or seven years ago, I think. Now I don't make movies to make money... I make money to make movies,”
To make his dream project a reality SRK is working very hard but is facing problems. Shah Rukh is losing his patience quite often on the sets that’s because director Anubhav Sinha is making alterations in the scenes and dialogue to make it more authentic. No wonder that it’s becoming difficult for SRK to rehearse all over again with the changes for the actual takes. As a result, the shoot is getting delayed.
Adding to his woes is the rubber suit that he has to wear for most part of his day, making it hotter under the collar for him. “Awful day at shoot. Acted badly...did awful action...and gave suggestions without understanding them myself. Delayed the shoot,” he recently posted on his Twitter page after pack up.
Reports suggest that apart from the fact that Shahrukh is taking keen interest in the film, there is one more reason for such deep involvement in the film on his part. Ra 1 is being produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, which is jointly owned by Shahrukh and Juhi Chawla. It is Juhi’s brother Bobby Chawla, who lends a helping hand to the two Bollywood stars by taking care of a lot of administrative work of the production company. But since Bobby is sick these days, Shahrukh has to take an extra load on himself.
Shahrukh has used all his links in the industry to coordinate the dates of Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, both of whom have an important role in the film so that they are available on the sets whenever needed.
Moreover, since the film rests on the special effects, Shahrukh Khan is also said to be in close contact with the various technicians of the film, who handle these special effects.
Shahrukh is also taking keen interest in ensuring that everyone associated with the film remains in good spirit. He is not only paying them handsomely but also making sure that that they are paid on time so that they put in their best in the project.
Considering the massive budget of the superhero movie, SRK is leaving no stone unturned to make sure it does well at the box-office. To get some luck on board, SRK recently invited his best friend, producer Karan Johar, to direct a few scenes of the movie in London. Khan wrote to Johar on Twitter, “Come to London and shoot a few shots for Ra.One for luck.” Johar, who has directed SRK in all his four movies so far, immediately confirmed and told him, “Will arrive for sure bhai... Though my action and sci-fi skills are highly questionable!”
The badshah of bollywood has also roped in Senegalese rapper Akon and thinks that it would help Ra1 going several notches above the rest of bollywood. The main reason for Shah Rukh to bring in Akon was the edgy nature of his songs which forces people to dance on his tunes. King Khan feels that the combination of his own charisma and Akon’s edginess should do the trick for ‘Ra 1’.
SRK is banking on Hollywood writer David Benullo for screenplay. Benullo has written the screenplay for Around the World in 80 Days and the script for Hallowed Ground, Cupid and Shadow Man, which had won the International Fantasy Film Award in 2006. An industry insider said, “Since Ra1 is not a run-of-the-mill film, it requires a unique treatment. It’s has loads of special effects, which is why it will be made differently from the usual commercial Hindi films. SRK wanted a writer who would do justice to the film. Which is why he got David Benullo to work on the script.”
Shahrukh has taken extra interest in the film and made extra efforts to see that the film gets made smoothly. RA.1 is expected to release early next year SRK’S efforts will pay-off if the film is liked by the people.
