She is basking in the success of Raajneeti where she wowed the audiences as a young, madly in love girl who becomes a pawn in the game of politics. In the last 10 minutes of the film, she is seen playing a chief minister and manages to leave a strong impact on viewers. So far the actress has managed to deliver hits. But Katrina is quick to counter the notion that she is a "formula" for filmmakers in search of a hit. "I am no formula. It isn't true that a film becomes a hit because of me. I always put a script above my own role. I always see a film in totality and not just on the basis of my role. The film comes first; the role comes second for me. It's just that god has been very kind and my choices have mostly turned out be right," said Katrina.
Reminds us of Hema Malini. There was a time when anything she touched turned into gold. Fading superstars with falling fortunes and receding hairlines pleaded to get lucky Hema into their projects. Katrina is far more of a go-getter than Hema. We often hear stories of her dignified defiance against Salman Khan’s autocratic ways she never allowed him to dominate her life. When you meet her she appears to be aloof, but then you realise, the vulnerable do need to fortify themselves from the strong winds.
Does she fear failure after such bundles of success "I don't get scared. It's wrong if people say a hit is expected of me all the time. Of course, everyone fears failure, but for me there is no added pressure to succeed. It is up to the audience to accept or reject a film and I am happy my audience has supported me so far," she say’s in a confident tone.
Katrina doesn’t want to discuss her woes with anyone anymore she wants to bottle it all up because she thinks that her sob stories are creating an impression that she’s a cry-baby. Sometimes all Katrina wants is a strong guy to go home to. Not everyone is as lucky as Bipasha, Kareena and Aishwarya. Some of the most beautiful women in the world are the loneliest. In fact, the more the beautiful, the lonelier. Implores Katrina, “Please don’t write stories about my problems. People have started to think I’m cooking them up for sympathy.”
Currently shooting in Spain, for Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ far from soaking up the Spanish sun, the actress is actually roughing it out there. While the boys are actually partying hard and having the time of their lives, the girls who have to pretend to be as bold and vivacious on camera as their male counterparts, are often left groggy, under-slept and exhausted. This all-night revelry has been especially hard on Katrina. An early sleeper, she has been trying doubly hard to not lag behind but her body clock has gone for a toss.
Apparently the hectic and noisy night shoots, which have been continuing non-stop, are taking a serious toll on Katrina’s health. She feels sapped out all the time. Says the actress, “I really don’t want to sound like a whining baby. But yes we’ve been shooting from 4 pm to 6 am every day here in Spain for Zoya’s film. It isn’t easy.”
Will she be able to give up cinema for marriage ever “Cinema, for me, is a passion, not an addiction. But I am sure that when I hit the right note with the person I love, I will make the transition without any hitch.”
With all the fuss about being a superstar and great crowd puller at the box office life for Katrina is not a bed of roses. Is Katrina becoming a mistress of solitude? Katrina is lucky for everyone around her. But will she be lucky for herself? That we’ll only know when she hits the magical 40 if there’s a guy next to at her 40th birthday party then baby, it’s truly party-time for Katrina.
