Though the whole Bachchan clan is thrilled Amitabh Bachchan released a statement saying, "Jaya and I are delighted at the news. We wish to thank all our friends and well wishers for their affection and seek your blessings and love in the coming days."
Given the chance, the Bachchans would've liked to keep it quiet as long as possible, "I guess it couldn't be kept quiet. So now you know why I've been trying to stay out of the public eye lately. It's still to sink in, really. Of course, Abhishek and I are super happy. But it is a matter of happiness for our entire family. And that makes all the difference," said Aishwarya.

Aishwarya had already shot for ten days for the film before her pregnancy was announced to the world. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s decision to shelve his film rather than work with a pregnant actor has caused ripples in Bollywood. Bhandarkar and production house UTV announced that they have decided to shelve their film, Heroine, out of concern for the lead actor "We have all agreed that the best step would be to avoid shooting further, rather than proceeding with an incredibly demanding schedule over the coming months. Even as we will truly miss this opportunity to work with Aishwarya, the entire unit wishes her the very best for the exciting time ahead as she and Abhishek move into this special new phase in their lives," It wished the 37-year-old actress a healthy motherhood.
Sources reveal that ever since the announcement, Bhandarkar is depressed. “Madhur has just locked himself up in the room and refuses to talk. He has already spent four crore on the film and is worried about losses. Basically, he feels betrayed that Ash kept him in the dark. If the baby is due in November, Ash must already be pregnant when she began shooting. She should have been honest and upfront about it.”
Aishwarya, and her family, meanwhile are reportedly furious with the insensitivity with which the fimmaker has reacted. Although she refused to say anything on record, sources close to her said, “Aishwarya is shocked at Madhur’s attitude. She is pregnant, not sick or bedridden, and is perfectly capable of shooting. There was only one action scene in the movie that shows her character running from a brothel and she has already shot that.”
Bhandarkar and UTV officials met Aishwarya twice last week to work out a solution. “Rather than congratulating Ash on the most awaited good news of her life, they just seemed worried about their film. Ash told them she’ll complete the shoot by July end. But they felt she will look overweight and unglamorous,” the source added, revealing that Aishwarya had so far not even been given a bound script of the film or paid a penny for her work.
With uncertainty looming large over the film's fate and unconfirmed reports stating that Heroine could either be shelved completely or begin with another leading lady, trade is pegging the overall loss of 4-5 crores on a conservative scale. While it is being said that Ash is willing to continue with the film's shoot with director Madhur Bhandarkar on a fast track mode so that no one's interests are harmed, it is obvious that the makers aren't willing to buy any justification. More so because apparently, neither the producers (UTV) nor the director were informed in advance about Ash going the family way.
“Aisa thodi hi hota hai”, is the question asked, “There was an overseas shoot planned. Then there are a couple of dances that Ash was supposed to do. For the dramatic portions of the film, Madhur could still go ahead and take close-up shots to hide her pregnancy. But how about the part where she has to look glamorous? Her entire profile can anyways not be shown on camera, now that she is all set to put on weight.”
But Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is not very happy with the decision of Madhur Bhandarkar and UTV to change the heroine or shelve the project. Aishwarya is of the view that she had already told Madhur that she would like to complete the project by the end of July. And, she is still ready to go along in that time frame but Madhur feels that the flick would need more time to complete.
Madhur Bhandarkar and makers think that even if Aishwarya agrees to shoot for the film, it would not be up to the mark due to her baby bump and all that problems that would come along as the time passes. And finally, Aishwarya will not be available when the time for post- production and promotion of the film arrives, as by that time she would be preparing for her delivery and subsequent motherhood.
