The Munnis and the Sheilas of Bollywood can take a backseat for a while because the 33-year-old Vidya, even with her not so washboard abs, might just become every man’s fantasy with her titillating moves, curvaceous frame, playfulness, and sensuous ways in her scenes with Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Bollywood’s very own serial kisser Emraan Hashmi in her forthcoming film ‘The Dirty Picture’.
Though at 33 she is just six years old in the Hindi movie industry, her oeuvre is so impressive that there was a Vidya Balan retrospective at the Indian film fest in two Australian cities. From playing a foul mouthed, manipulative vengeful woman in “Ishqiya” to the mother of a progeria patient in Paa to a grieving sister in “No One Killed Jessica”, Vidya has been proving her versatility with her nuanced handling of different characters. She made a late entry in films, but it hasn’t taken her long to carve a niche.
She is at her boldest ever in The Dirty Picture, but actress says she never felt a sense of discomfort shooting for the movie as she was in the "trusted hands" of director Milan Luthria. "I have never enjoyed being a woman more than I did while shooting for 'The Dirty Picture'. I wasn't uncomfortable doing bold scenes because I knew I was in trusted hands.”
Vidya reprises the late southern siren Silk Smitha's rise and fall as a glamourous star in the film"I have worked with Naseer before but this time it was easier I was less nervous this time," say’s Vidya, who had teamed up with the veteran actor in Ishqiya. On working with Bollywood's serial kisser Emraan, with whom she has locked lips in the film, she say’s "I was wondering how it would be with Emraan, but it was fun."

Vidya will be seen in an alluring and sensuous avatar as Silk Smitha but the actress says she does not fear being tagged as a “porn star” “I think I am an actor playing a character Silk Smitha. I don't think there is a possibility of that tag being attached to me. I just hope it adds another shade to me as an actor.”
Vidya who plays Vijaylakshmi, better known as Silk Smitha, a small town girl, with her dance numbers and bold performances reached the ultimate symbol of sensuality in Southern cinema. Film critics have often referred to her as a “soft porn” actress.
On the reports claiming that Vidya secretly married UTV Motion Pictures’ head honcho Siddharth Roy Kapur the actress shot it down straightaway saying she is so busy with her film that she doesn’t have time to think about marriage “I am not yet ready to make a wedding album. I am busy making ‘Dirty Picture’ at the moment.”
Marriage may or may not figure in her plans but Vidya is not ready to give up acting for anything or anyone “ Acting is a part of whom I am. I don’t think I will remotely give it up for anything or anyone. But having said that, if it comes naturally to me and I do feel like taking it easy at some point of time, maybe I will. But that shouldn’t be a pre-condition to get into any relationship,” she adds diplomatically.
She is glad women are not giving up their careers just for their personal lives any more “I think today women continue to work at every age. It’s fantastic! But, yes, in our profession (acting), in the earlier days, the moment you got married, you ceased to be an object of desire, which is why a lot of actresses retired. Today, no longer! I guess that’s also got to do a lot with the fact and attitude that today if someone is with someone, it doesn’t stop you from desiring them!” she said and broke into a naughty laugh.
