Your changing weight is creating a lot of news. Are you really losing out on projects because of that?
Not at all! I have got six films lined up. All these rumours are in bad taste because media is being personal and ridiculous. I think it is time to prove that curvy can also be beautiful as well. I work hard to maintain myself and always try to look better. But I don’t believe in going to an extreme or being stick-thin. Also if I have been accepted for the way I look, why would I do anything to change it? There is pressure from a lot of people, but that’s not what my audience wants. I’m happy with the way I look.
How has life changed post stardom?
It’s been great so far. There is suddenly so much to do. Now every day I have to go for an event, do a shoot or attend a meeting. I have always been a laid back person, who would find ample time to just chill. Now life’s taken a complete turn as I am working all the time. But I do appreciate that as I enjoy work.
You soon courted the tag of the most controversial newcomer your take...
I don’t know how I have become controversial. I am such a boring person in life that I have nothing to talk about myself, forget making up stories about others. I think controversies follow me. I don’t do jack! But then how many places will I go and shout that it’s not me, not me! Initially they would get me mighty irritated, then it turned into just ignore and now it’s simply care a damn! I don’t believe people who make such stories deserve that much importance. Also today’s newspaper is tomorrow’s wrap or scrap anyway. So it doesn’t really matter.
For the records, what are your dating statuses at the moment?
I am extremely single at the moment. Also right now, I don’t really have the time for men as I am working round the clock. So where’s the time to go for dinner dates, hold hands and all that jazz? When love has to happen it will happen, I am not stopping it. I like being in love, but not at the moment.
What’s your sex appeal?
I believe it’s my eyes as people say I converse with them. But my appeal also is the fact that I look different. People sort of take notice of you when you are different. I don’t fall into the skinny brigade. When everyone was opting for a mini skirt, I opted for ghagra choli and sari, which was a different route to take even in terms of my fashion. That’s why people stood up and took notice. They told me that I have brought the earthy feel and old world charm back. That’s my sex appeal.
Is there anything that you would never do on screen?
I have made it clear that I will not kiss or wear any revealing clothes. I have been brought up with certain values that I will never compromise on. Also since my first film worked well, in spite of me not doing these things, it gives me the confidence and the resolve to not do them ever in future. I know kissing is no longer a taboo and since there are so many actors willing to do it, my not doing it won’t make any difference. But just because so many people do it doesn’t necessarily mean that I too will do it.
