| Though, Katrina would have surely set a record if she had bagged the role in question. But things were never easy for her as Kareena Kapoor was also in the running to be cast opposite her G.One.
"Kareena has worked with SRK in Asoka and RA.One. She shares a good on-screen chemistry with him. Also, director Rohit Shetty is very fond of her. She has been his chosen one for the successful Golmaal franchise. She is the obvious choice for the project," say’s a source.
Despite Kareena being a strong contender for the role, a section of the industry believed that Katrina's friendship with Rohit Shetty might just pay off. Katrina is working with SRK in Yash Chopra's film. She has become good friends with the actor as well.
Rohit Shetty was earlier planning to remake the 1982 comedy with SRK, and had decided to cast Kareena in the same. After RA.One, when SRK decided to continue with the action genre, Shetty dropped his plans to remake Angoor. When Rohit decided to make an action film with Shah Rukh, he was not ready to change his heroine.
A source close to Kareena say’s, "Kareena is very keen to work with Rohit again. And Rohit too will want his successful heroine back."
It is lonely at the top and there can only be one person there. That is what exactly is going on between Katrina and Kareena, the two women fighting neck to neck for the "numero uno" position in Bollywood. Even after many hits Katrina cannot match our expensively pricy Kareena. It’s just Kareena's charisma that does not seem to fade.
A member of Kareena’s entourage informs that Bebo is leading the race for the top spot “Rohit is good friends with Kareena after they worked together in Golmaal 3. Plus, SRK too enjoys working with her. And by the time Rohit’s film starts, SRK would still be busy working with Kat in Yash Chopra’s untitled film. So, in a bid to add that novelty factor, Kareena is likely to bag the part,” says the team member.
The latest update on the yet untitled Shah Rukh Khan project with Rohit is that the latter has decided to cast Kareena Kapoor in the movie instead of Katrina Kaif. The film will go on the floor by early next year and the highlight will be its music, which will be composed by the one and only A. R. Rahman.
That leaves us wondering what mistakes Katrina did that she sliped to number two position. The choice of Tees Maar Khan, her first flop in a long time, shook Katrina Kaif up so badly that she just went underground. She ultimately went on to refuse Rohit Shetty's Singham, Vipul Shah's next with Abhishek Bachchan, Kunal Kohli's offer with Saif Ali Khan and a couple of other projects.
All this while Kareena Kapoor, the reigning diva of Bollywood continued her march. Kareena quickly grabbed projects with the Khans — Aamir (Reema Kagti's film), Salman (Bodyguard), Shah Rukh (RA.One), Saif (Agent Vinod) and Imran (Short Term Shaadi). For a while, it seemed like Kat had lost direction. She seemed to be more involved in her love life (Ranbir Kapoor) than her career.
However, once the RK Junior chapter ended abruptly, Kat was back like a wounded tigress baying for blood. She made sure she landed in Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger with her ex-lover Salman and she was the chosen one for Yash Chopra's next with Shah Rukh. She is not in Dhoom-3 with Aamir, but there is a hint that she may land another Aamir project in the end of 2012. In other words, Kat's wait has proved fruitful.
Incidentally, there are naysayers who feel that SRK was hesitant to do a Yash Chopra film because that camp has now tied up with his rivals Aamir and Salman. However after Christmas and New Year celebrations, he will continue to serenade Kat on screen. So Bebo is not the only Khantastic girl at the moment. Katrina has fired her salvo as well. |
