This doesn’t happen only in Bollywood. It’s a phenomenon common to all starry parts of the world.
In the world of celestial celluloid beauties, we mean. Romance, controversy, link-ups, cat-fights, and heart-break – like us earthy beings, our movie stars face these joys, trials and tribulations all the same.

The only difference in the ‘timing’. While we would think – ‘Why me. Why now?’ For the movie stars and their better halves (read: walking-talking PR machines) planting, weaving and hyping controversies is as much a challenging task as a movie-marketing plan.

| Oh well, at times it could be a part of the mega marketing plan itself. Low cost, maybe even no-cost and high returns. What more can some filmmakers starved of media space as for? The stars grab the headlines; the supposed romance is in the air, the news is in your face and even if you’re a non-movie goer – you’ll dip in to the juicy gossip. Like it or not.

Call it pre-release hype, or pre-release planning. Or just pre-release romance – sometimes it works like magic on the junta who thrive on ‘Who is dating whom’, ‘Who is sleeping with whom’ kinda controversy. And usually it’s the Bollywood hotties and current favorites who get entangled in such controversies.
Take for instance the rumors of brewing romance between (and for once we’re taking the word rumour more seriously than the stars) Sunjay Dutt and Vidya Balan during Parineeta, Lara Dutta and John Abraham during Kaal, John and Vidya Balan during Salaam-E-Ishq, serial kisser Emraan Hashmi and Celina Jaitley kiss ‘n’ miss episode during Jawaani Diwani. Esha Deol and Zayed Khan during Chura Liya Hai Tumne . If you think this is amusing, the cat-fights are far more fool-hardy, but for us it makes for interesting reading. Fardeen Khan and Shahid Kapoor have a man-to-man word war while filming Fida , there was smoke blowing out of Celina Jaitley and Kim Sharma’s ears on the sets of Tom Dick and Harry .

| Mallika throws her high-handed starry tantrum, or Ameesha acts like the snob, making the other beauties go red in the face. For once even the much-worshipped Bachchan parivaar are disapprovingly and curiously questioned about the perfectly timed Aishwarya – Abhishek engagement. Now if the Gurus of Bollywood are supposedly romancing such new marketing ploys, the rest can valiantly follow suit.
