After Sanjay Leela Bhansali commented on Kunal Kohli on the show, Mallika Sherawat made a comment on how she could have done Kareena's item song Yeh mera dil better in Don. At face value, it was a joke. But, read between the lines, the remark wasn’t all innocent. “Because I am better,” Mallika said, matter-of-factly.

For, it’s a well-known fact that there’s no love lost between the two. Their rivalry goes back to the time when Mallika was Reema Lamba, and she played Kareena’s best friend and confidante in Vashu Bhagnani’s Jeena Sirrf Tere Liye. A source close to the unit of that long forgotten film says, “The vibes between the two were so cold that the sets would freeze the minute the two actresses walked in.” After the film, Mallika had confessed to a friend, “Bebo treated me like dirt. I was just nobody, and she made me feel like dirt. Bebo wouldn’t talk to me. Even my hellos went unanswered. I felt miserable.”
Mallika’s first chance to get even came when she was offered Murder. The film seemed like another, more erotic interpretation to the theme of marital infidelity that Kareena shot in Dharmesh Darshan’s Bewafaa.
“Mallika went around telling everyone that Bebo was doing a film exactly like her Murder. When this reached Bebo’s ears, she was naturally livid. Finally, Murder came much before Bewafaa and proved to be a much bigger success and Mallika felt vindicated for all the humiliation she had suffered during Jeena Sirrf Tere Liye, ” the source revealed.
But let's not forget that all this washing of dirty linen in public only helps sell more tabloid copies. Not to mention what it does for Johar's talk show ratings. As for the catalyst himself, the man who provides these ladies the platform to battle it out, he chooses to wash his hands off any responsibility.
I think people tend to be slightly wittier, if not bitchy, and slightly more fun on the show. I don’t do anything. I ask innocent questions,” he says.
Hey! If we might be as bitchy as theses ladies are, let's just say that sometimes their catfights are far more entertaining than their movies.
