| All four Bachchan bungalows situated within a few kilometres in Juhu have been decked up, drawing the attention of the general public to the big fat Bollywood wedding on April 20. |
|

The four houses - 'Janak', 'Jalsa', 'Prateeksha' and 'Ammu' — have been done up. Although Amitabh Bachchan has termed it a small and private affair, all the rituals leading up to a Hindu wedding are taking place at Bachchan's residence at Jalsa.

Bachelor bash for Abhishek
Celebrations had begun with the bachelor's party on Tuesday apparently hosted by Sikander Kher, actor and childhood friend of Abhishek. Abhishek's friends performed special dance numbers at the party. According to a source close to the family,"Each one of them did a different song and all of them have been rehearsing for the same every night for the last ten days. The performers include Rohan Sippy, Apoorva Lakhia, Chirag Doshi, Sanjay Dutt, and Sikander Kher."

Sangeet ceremony on April 18
Most of the invitees for the wedding were also invited for the Sangeet ceremony on April 18. The sangeet preparations were apparently entrusted to Abhishek's Delhi-based sister Shweta Nanda. The function begin at about 7.30 pm at Jalsa and went on till the wee hours of April 19. It was nothing short of a sangeet ceremony out of a Yash Chopra film. Both bride and bridegroom performed on film songs like Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli and Balle Balle from Bride And Prejudice for which the couple has been rehearsing every day. Ace dancer Shiamak Davar and celebrity filmmaker Karan Johar choreographed the traditional sangeet.

The high point of the evening was Amitabh Bachchan looking resplendent in a white crystal-studded kurta. The guests included Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Karan Johar, Ram Gopal Varma, singers Amaan and Ayaan Ali, Amar Singh, Sahara head honcho Subrata Roy and Anil Ambani. The Kapoor family members, including Krishna Raj Kapoor, her sons Rishi, Rajiv as well as Rishi's actor-wife Neetu were also present. Actors Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty were seen arriving together.
A ripple of excitement ran through TV studios when the rumour come in that Salman Khan been spotted at Jalsa, the Bachchan residence?

The resemblance was startling, but it wasn’t the Khan but Dilip, a childhood friend of Abhishek's who had arrived from Hong Kong for the star wedding of the year. In fact, none of the famous Khans are on the invite list. The list of invitees for the Abhiash wedding remains very exclusive but also includes many who have stood by the Bachchans through thick and thin.
Those left out are Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Rekha and Rani Mukherjee. K M Birla.

Mehndi ceremony
A special kind of mehndi has been ordered for the ceremony, like the one brought by Liz Hurley for her marriage with Arun Nayar last month. The mehendi ceremony was scheduled for Thursday at the other Bachchan house Jalsa while the final wedding rituals took place on Friday at Prateeksha. The wedding is going to be a close-knit affair as Amitabh's mother Teji Bachchan is ailing. Invitees have been sworn to secrecy about the wedding details and also about the contents and look of the wedding card, the dress code, etc.
The wedding card was embossed in gold and personally signed by groom's father Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya's parents. The wedding card comes in a big box, with three parts tied together with a ribbon. The first contains the invite while the second contains 24 pieces of a special mithai made with chocolate imported from Switzerland and the third box contains a Ganesh idol. |

Only 100 A-listers have got their hands on the invite. The guest list includes Ajay Devgan, Suniel Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Anupam Kher with family, Danny Denzongpa, Karan Johar, Yash Chopra, Sachin Tendulkar and the man behind the original Don Chandra Barot.
While most of the film industry has been given a cold shoulder, Sahara's Subroto Roy, Reliance honcho Anil Ambani and family will grace the occasion. Add to this are another 100 invitees that include 50 relatives from the groom's and the bride's families.
So it surely looks like it will be a wedding to remember. Security has been beefed up to 'Z' grade and over 300 guards are deployed to tackle any eventuality, like gatecrashers or crazy fans breaking in. Rumour has it that the guests will have to use swipe cards for entry. |

But if you are one of those who would do anything to get there, if you haven’t received an invitation to the wedding, there’s little chance you can gatecrash. Come April 20 and both the Bachchan bungalows, Prateeksha and Jalsa, will turn into well-manned fortresses.
