The upcoming Cannes Film Festival in France will see a strong Indian presence.

It is just a coincidence that Cannes Film Festival moves into its 60th year when India is also celebrating its 60 years of independence. But one thing is certain: Indian presence at the popular film fest keeps increasing every year.

Aishwarya Rai, as we know, has become a regular face of the festival. Last year we saw Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgan, Karan Johar, Vivek Oberoi and Vishal Bhardwaj among the Bollywood celebrities at the fest.

This year it is going to be Shilpa Shetty (who is enjoying international fame after her Big Brother win) John Abraham and Bipasha Basu are also expected to visit. The Hrithik and Ash starrer Jodha Akbar is also going to Cannes and the entire Bachchan family is going to be tagging along with their new daughter -in- law, Aishwarya Rai. Along with the Bachchan’s close friend, Amar Singh, too, will be party to this international fest.

If the news is true, we wonder if filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and Hrithik Roshan would mind the ‘family affair’, as it could well take away from the film. A friend of Hrithik’s informs us, “Hrithik may or may not be going to Cannes, but I think he would as he shares an excellent rapport with Ashutosh and wouldn’t want to upset him.” Aishwarya Rai with her hubby Abhishek Bachchan, will sure be seen at the festival what is left to be seen is will the heartthrob of millions Hrithik Roshan will join them or not.

As many as seven Indian films will be showcased at the fest. They include Rajkumar Hirani's 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', Mani Ratnam’s 'Guru' and Rituparno Ghosh's ‘Dosar’.

Ghosh’s 'The Last Lear' (starring Amitabh Bachchan) and three films by UTV ('Jodha Akbar' ,'Goal' and 'Metro') will be promoted at the festival. Some stars or directors of these films are likely to attend the fest.

Michael Winterbottom’s 'A Mighty Heart' starring Angelina Jolie, Dan Futterman and Irrfan Khan will also be screened at the fest (not in competition category).

After having won several prestigious awards and appreciation by the audiences and the industry, 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' will now be showcased at the festival. The film will be screened in the ‘Les Cinemas du Monde' section which screens the best of world cinema .

Along with 'Lage Raho Munnabhai,' Vinod’s own directorial film 'Eklavya' will also be screened at Cannes. The film is being screened in the market section.

The Hindi film 'Dharm,' which will also be premiere at theFestival beginning was shot with high-definition (HD) technology and represents a breakthrough for Indian cinema.
